An avid skier,
Charles Silk, D.D.S. is actively involved with Hunter Mountain Racing, a collective of skiers and snowboarders who train athletes for competition in the World Cup, Winter Olympics, and X-Games. Through Hunter Mountain Racing, amateur competitors benefit from the firsthand experience and skills of former competitors. Although only a few athletes may compete at the national level, all members of Hunter Mountain Racing benefit from the diverse backgrounds of the group’s members. Young members are able to improve their resumes and possibly earn college scholarships. At present, Hunter Mountain Racing sponsors Snowboard, Alpine Racing, and Alpine Freestyle programs. Hunter Mountain Racing is able to support the development of new athletes through an associated foundation, which provides financial aid, connects members to educational opportunities, and funds participation in competitions. Through the foundation, members can apply for grants to finance travel, training camps, and entry fees. The foundation raises money for Hunter Mountain Racing through individual donors, corporate sponsors, and various fundraising events, including a Kiddie Karnival, Dance Parties, the SnowBall, and raffles. In the past year, the Hunter Mountain Racing Freestyle Team had one of its best seasons in history. After sending multiple competitors to the Eastern Championships, a Hunter Mountain Racing competitor took fourth place overall. At the age of 15, this member subsequently competed in the Junior Olympics, claiming sixth place against some of the best freestyle skiers in the nation. Representing Hunter Mountain Racing at the United States Freestyle Championships, he competed against four Olympic competitors and eight members of the United States Ski Team, earning 20th place.
